Friday Facts - The "Buried" Ferrari

How would your day be as a kid, playing in the backyard and stumbling upon a Ferrari, while digging the ground. Well, thats exactly what happened in LA, California, in the year 1978.

Heres the story of "The Buried Ferrari" that died to live another day 😉

.

.

A gentleman back in the year 1974 purchased a brand new Ferrari Dino 246 gts as a birthday present for his wife. The Couples take the car out for dinner a week later and returned only to see the car being stolen. The authorities were informed about the incident and the car was never recovered.

.

.

Four years later, California PD were notified about a possible car being buried in the backyard of a family residency. Kids were playing in the backyard and stubled upon a big metal object while digging. The kids informed the same to their parents. All the family members joined hands to uncover this big pile of metal that was hiding in the ground and to all surprises found that the metal hunk was a 1972 Ferrai Dino.

The car was removed from the ground. The condition of the car was immensely terrible. With massive white patch and thick mud covering the car , there was hardly any chance of it being bought back to life. Although the outer shell was a complete mess, the interior was pretty intact, with all leather trims dry and still in restorable condition.

The Insurance company who owned the car, sold the Ferrari at an auction for $7000 to a young mechanic. The mechanic, just after a few days sold the car again for a heafty sum of $22,500.

“Brad Howard” the gentleman who had purchased the “Buried” Ferrari from the mechanic, had the car bought back to life. The car mechanicals was completely redone and the body works completely worked upon to quality standards .

With the car being bough back to factory spec, there is no surprise that the owner till date enjoys his acquisition.

A factory green outer body and beige leather interior, this Italian stallion is a fine piece of art and we can easily say that all the time and effort put into getting this car back to its original form was well worth it. This might be one of the best stories associated with a car till date.

.

.

Rumors also has it that the first owner who bought the car brand new, convicted an insurance fraud. He had few people deliberately steal the car and later destroy it and claim the full insurance for the same. The thugs who were told to destroy the car fell in love with the vehicle. Although they buried the car in some strangers backyard, they had wrapped the engine bay with through plastic sheets and the car with thick cloth, hoping to recover the vehicle someday.

True or not, we are glad that this beauty is back on the roads and lived to be driven.
